About Allison Thrash

Allison Thrash, born in Dallas, Texas, is the youngest of the three children of Patricia Francis and John Thrash. Both parents loved music and sang throughout Allison's childhood passing on to all three children a deep love of music and a passion for performing. As a young child and throughout her high school years, Allison performed every chance she got, either singing in school choirs or providing piano accompaniment for others.

In college, while working toward her B.A. in Philosophy, she ardently studied operatic technique under tenor Joseph Beck. After graduation, Allison settled in Houston where music and performing became her driving force; and so it wasn’t long before she was singing professionally performing regularly with various jazz and big band outfits.

Years later, Allison and her family of four black Labrador retrievers made the journey to the musical Mecca of Austin, TX where they settled on several acres at Lake Travis now fittingly known throughout the community as “Labrador Hill”. In this serene setting, Allison finds inspiration to spend most time focusing on songwriting and arranging; and it was here that Allison’s own publishing company Labrador Hill Music was conceived. While performing other people’s songs and various styles of music from Pop to Country to Jazz, Allison all the while was honing her own songwriting craft and unique style of “sultry” blues.

In 2004, Allison developed her own label Head On Records and released Talking Thrash, a full length CD of her own original tunes written in homage to “women who love men ...a lot. The CD was recorded in Austin and produced by David Breaux and featured various musicians such as Ephraim Owens, Philippe Vieux, Matt Hubbard and David Love contributing their talents. "Woman Enough", is Allison's tribute to Billie Holiday and her self-penned tune, "Don't Explain", while "Mean Mean Man" was written in an effort to draw attention to the enduring crime of violence against women and children.

Allison's vocal performance has been described as "...leaving no crumbs on the table.. Her voice has been called "...absolutely sultry...powerful...new, unique and different...S-T-R-O-N-G...” Allison Thrash and her handpicked band of talented and seasoned Austin Jazz/Blues musicians perform regularly at such noted Austin venues as La Zona Rosa, the Broken Spoke, the Saxon Pub, and the 311 Club. Additionally, she was chosen to perform as a headliner at 2005’s NXNE Music Conference in Toronto, Canada where she performed to a sell-out crowd.

Today,Allison continues to write new material for other artists as well as for film and television projects and plans for an upcoming 2006 studio release are already in the works so stay tuned for more Thrash!
