About Ambiance

Guy Langlois

The Musician

Guy Langlois is a multi-instrumentalist with formal training in classical and jazz music theory and performance. He has performed in many cover bands over his music career.

Mr. Langlois lived in the far north for close to thirty years. Most of his songs draw from his life experiences living in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. "The place may be cold but the warm hearts of the people that live up there is what kept me in the North".

Mr. Langlois has released his debut album of original compositions, "Ambiance. The genre of music would be described as adult contemporary or Pop/Adult, comparable to the music of "Bruce Cockburn". Mr. Langlois' lyrical phrasing is similar to that of Leonard Cohen. His music mixes the influences of classical and jazz into strong arrangements and memorable melodies.

Ambiance's main distinctive feature is its exceptional performances by accomplished jazz, classical and folk artists.
Soothing and easy to listen to, the music promotes a psychological movement inward, a sonic mirror to human emotions.

Mr. Langlois' influences include a respect for and affinity with nature, the rhythms and beliefs of First Nations, his own French cultural heritage, and musical genres from traditional roots to jazz and classical.

Ambiance

Ambiance is the conceptual recording, video and performance project of Guy Langlois.

The concept of the album is to bring the listener to a place where the song was created, which in this case is one of the serenity and beauty in "Canada's North".

The album was release in September 2004. The album was recorded at the Woodshop Recording Studio on Vancouver Island drawing from the large pool of talented jazz musicians who perform in the area.

The CD features the songs "Starlight", "Balance", and "Solstice". I believe these three songs paint musical landscapes of our interaction with Nature. The songs are reflective of life in Canada and the abundant beauty it has to offer. Soothing and easy to listen to, the music promotes a psychological movement inward, a sonic mirror to human emotions.

The songs are in the adult/pop and folk/rock genre of music and includes two songs performed in French. "Mon Amie" and "Lacher Prise".

Many songs have the theme of nature and how we relate to it. "I create sonic landscapes so people can close their eyes and visualize birds by the sounds they hear."
That eco-theme is captured in Balance co-written with Andrews. "It was inspired by our environment and how it's important to learn to' live in balance with nature so we can co-exist."

News Leader - October 13, 2004

Ambiance features the vocal stylings of Ms. Lorelei Andrew on the songs Solstice and Lâcher Prise.

Plans are underway to produce the video, "Starlight".

The scheduled release date for the video is spring 2005.
