À Rebours

À Rebours is a music project conceived and executed by Ian Stone. The project is intended for full band performances and the sound is a combination of several different genres--goth, shoegaze, darkwave, electro, hard rock--all colliding under a dark, melancholy umbrella. Aiming to extend beyond the borders of genre, this pastiche of many elements creates something familiar, but creatively unique for the listener. À Rebours is a message from outer space, a Victorian Romance, a haunting, a walk through 30's Berlin, an irreverent emotion, a dark rock epic, and an overcast day all in one.

Performances of late usually occupy either of two categories: a) one-man shows with several guitars, backing tracks and a lot of theatrics, or b) stripped down, solo acoustic shows with alternate versions of songs arranged for this purpose. À Rebours is in the process of recruiting individuals for live support.

What does À Rebours sound like? Phantoms from the æther haunting Nikola Tesla's workshop, whereupon their EVP were captured on phonograph cylinders that turned up over a century later in a trunk in the back of an opium den, discovered therein by a goth rock band who just happened to own a machine of alien design that played, of all things, those cylinders.
