Mike Garson, pianistic artiste extrordinaire and an allround nice guy, after collaborating on three of gods girlfriend’s tracks for their debut album 'Don't Panic' has said that gods girlfriend was '...one of my favourite collaborations.'
Now that might not sound like much but considering that his collaborations have included such heavyweights as David Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan, No Doubt and Nine Inch Nails among others, it would appear that this little band from the bottom of the world is in good company.
The band started out as a recording project with a bunch of Kat and Zoltan’s friends from around the Brisbane alternative scene. It was a long process and some songs were rerecorded three or four times.'I just didn't want to have an album where you play it and you end up saying, I wish I'd done that there, or, I should have taken that bit out,' Kat recalls. So we took our time and the result has been well worth the wait.
This album has been a long time coming for Kat, who writes and arranges all the songs.
Studied jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium, and a Bachelor's degree in Politics and Ethnomusicology (double major).
Kat has worked extensively in the jazz field both as teacher and compiler of 'The Female Vocal Real Book', (now out of print) known as 'the pink book' which became a standard textbook for jazz vocalists in conservatoria around the world including Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the U.S for their popular jazz vocal strands, being endorsed by Lee Berk of Berklee College of Music in Boston.

The album 'Don't Panic' (RR001) took the best part of two years in the making. The end result is a mixture of influences, from Bowie, Moby, Morcheeba, Brand New Heavies, Sade, Zero Seven and Incognito. Easily digestible there is something for almost everyone to relate to. Long time partner Zoltan Campbell did the recording over many sleepless nights. Never being scared of hard work he would work til 4am only to get up for work the next morning. I guess it's all part of the fun!
The band will be touring later this year.
