About F.D.R.

Four Danville Rejects began in January of 2006 when Chase Carter moved back to Danville and reunited with his childhood friend Jarren Van Camp. It wasn’t soon after they started talking again that they started jamming as well in the epicenter of the Danville punk scene known as the Fera House.

Alex Baum was a frequent visitor of the Fera House during his senior year of high school and was there when F.D.R. started practicing there. Being a big fan of ska/punk music he asks if he could bring his horn in one day and so he became a member. Then in April after a few member changes Nate joined in on bass and so the line up was complete.

Now that I’ve told you the invigorating story of how it began I’ll tell you what it means. See the name says it all actually because on one hand it is a joke about how were a band made up of Danville kids (and Georgetown kids that hung out in the Danville punk scene) and Danville being the cess pool of bikers, whore’s, coke heads and all-around losers it is. Basically if you go anywhere in the state and say your from Danville you’re automatically labeled a reject hence the name. But at the same time it is a reference to a liberal leader of the 1930's and 40's that represented socialist ideals at a time the country needed them. In all were not completed named after F.D.R. the president or Four Danville Rejects. Just the same as our songs aren’t completely serious yet there not all humor. Take archie for instance the obviousness of it is sort of humorous and the details about a funny, gay kid but at the same time were telling you that we are not homophobic and essentially we think of archie as a regular guy. Or Emo Girl see it may be funny to kids who hate Emo music and Emo kids but it’s actually a story about a girl I dated years before Emo made a come back to main stream music. So anyway the point is that we want to achieve the balance of entertaining the masses while educating them. To make them laugh at the lyrics but also make them think about them. To me it’s what good punk is about. And we are simply asking for the opportunity to come to your town, set up shop , and give people a reason to dance.
